The (anti) Procrastination Diaries

Finding the ways to fill the time

Submit One, Submit All

On a semi-regular basis, I’m going to detail the submission guidelines of different publications.

Partly because I feel The Anti-Procractination Diaries is becoming ironically named I want to refocus it back to writing, and partly because I know how dispiriting it is to trawl through the web in search of places to submit.

Let’s begin with a big one.

Allen and Unwin producer of 250 new titles a year with world wide distribution and a regular opening for aspiring authors called “The Friday Pitch”. As the name suggests, authors should send their submissions on Friday to this email: No hard copies are accepted and the detailed submission guidelines are viewable on their website here:

Points and Pitfalls

  • No PDFs! Word files only.
  • Allen and Unwin are an Australian publisher so watch the time-difference if submitting from abroad.
  • Subject line of email should include the genre
  • They don’t want poetry, picture books, pure romance, short stories or scripts
  • Average submission response time: 2 – 4 weeks

Have a request for future submission write ups? Want a specific publication, your Alpacas Weekly or Doctor Who Does Standup Review? Post a note in the comments!

I love this new addition! Thanks for taking the time to highlight the various opportunities for freelancers. It’s great to have one more resource out there for finding places to submit.

Thanks Rebecca, it’s good to see you’re back from your screens hiatus ^^ Doing the WWU keeps regular post creation going at least, which is important atm as I’m too swamped with study commitments to write anything creative >< If you're looking for something in particular tell me and I'll try and find it for you!

Thanks – I’ll keep that offer in mind. Right now I’m all over the place so the WWU is a perfect addition to that mindset 🙂
